A little game that fits in your pocket, and brings many people to the same table
After TuntoTan and SokkoTuristi, I wanted to try something completely different. What if an accessible game didn’t need a big game box?
KoloPeli grew from the idea of making a small, easy-to-carry game that could be explained in just a few minutes and brought out almost anywhere.
Familiar rules, a new way to play
KoloPeli was inspired by the familiar Happy Families card game. The basic idea is simple: collect as many sets of five matching cards as possible by asking the other players for the cards you need.
But in KoloPeli, you don’t need to look at your cards.
Instead, the holes in the cards tell you what you are holding. Your fingers explore the cards while your memory tries to keep track of what the other players have asked for — and who might have the cards you are looking for.
It’s a simple game with a surprisingly tactile twist.
Small, durable and easy to take anywhere
Because the cards move from player to player and are explored by hand, I wanted the material to stand up to plenty of handling. That’s why KoloPeli uses plastic cards: they are durable and can also be cleaned when needed.
The whole game fits into a small metal case that slips easily into a bag or even a pocket. One deck is enough for 3–5 players. With additional decks, the game can accommodate much larger groups. I’ve tested two decks with 7 and 8 players, and three decks with 14 players.
